SCULPTURE
WATER FLOWING OVER SOUTH AFRICAN GEOLOGICAL AND ECONOMIC HISTORY
A passage of
time represented through water flowing over hot fused glass
discs that contain minerals and elements from specific geological
sites in South Africa’s mineral history – for example
the gold mines of Johannesburg, diamond gravel from the Kimberley
Big Hole, sand from excavations along the West African Coast.
The spiral structure in stainless steel supports glass forms.

Jeannette Unite is a full time Professional Artist. She works
with architects and designers on corporate and residential commissions
both locally and internationally as well as producing work for
her solo exhibitions.

NATIONAL GALLERY,
CAPE TOWN
The title for the exhibition, SENTENCES, originated in a Thupela
workshop at the National Gallery in Cape Town. As artists work
alongside each other, dialogue spontaneously develops - Jeannette
was playing with collage and then sequencing separate collages,
like frames in an animation strip. One of the international
artists in the workshop, Chris Cozier, from Trinidad, recognized
the calligraphic nature of the work - "like a handwriting
out of focus"
Jeannette Unite lectured specialist art subjects for over a
decade at various art institutions. More recently she has focussed

THE HELSINKI PROJECT

'South Africa Today'
exhibition opened by Cherylo Carolus and South African Ambassador
in Finland, Franki Verwey.
The animation for the 2002 New Year Concert was performed in
conjunction with the Sibelius Academy for The Concert was attended
by 3500 people. The art film Jeannette Unite and Koeka Stander
created was projected onto a three storey high screen behind
