Overburden series are paintings that are made up of sands from specific sites and refers to the Mass of Sand and Earth above the Ore Body in Mining. These sandscape African landscapes are comprised of earth, Metal oxides like Titanium, Iron and Copper as well as graphite and gold dump sands, copper from the oldest colonial mine in the country in Namakwaland, platinum mines and the Kimberley Big Hole diamond mine. These materials are floated in an artists acrylic medium or smolten in glass at abnormal temperatures or made into chalk pastels that are used in drawings.
